О книге «Два мира вернер эльза»
Herzog made his Bayreuth debut with this production, whose principal merit appeared for a time to be the icily brilliant sets and costumes of Henning von Gierke.
Early on, that is, neither directorial inventiveness nor dramatic insights were very much in evidence.
To be sure, Lohengrin did wear a simple baby-blue smock rather than the shining armor of Elsa's dream, but when did you last see a Lohengrin in full metal jacket?
Wagner's Act III, which opens with the infamous wedding march and an extended bridal chamber scene, can come close to slipping into banality if not farce. Herzog, changing stylistic gear with a lurch, placed the marriage bed out of doors in an ice-coated landscape on what seemed to be either a shag rug or a clump of frozen tundra.
Handmaidens stripped Lohengrin and Elsa down to their underwear in preparation for the main event, but the newlyweds didn't seem to notice any chill.
